Yucatán is among the first states in the country of Mexico to integrate artificial intelligence into its educational system. This initiative will be implemented at the Metropolitan Technological University (UTM), the Polytechnic University of Yucatán (UPY), and the Mérida Institute of Technology. Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena presided over the signing of a collaboration agreement with the technology company Getmee to promote the professional development and comprehensive preparation of university students through technological innovation.

In the first phase, the program will be implemented in key institutions such as the Metropolitan Technological University (UTM), the Polytechnic University of Yucatan ( UPY ) and the Technological Institute of Merida. These universities will serve as a pilot to evaluate the impact of this technology on the professional training and employability of students.
The governor highlighted that this initiative is in line with the Mayan Renaissance projects, aimed at generating more opportunities and jobs for the new generations. He stressed the importance of providing modern tools that connect education with the demands of the labor market, allowing young people to develop their full potential.
Yucatán Leading the Way in Technological Applications
The agreement positions Yucatán as a pioneer in Mexico for the use of advanced technology and artificial intelligence for training, professional development, and enhancing the employability of its university students. The collaboration between the Yucatán government and the Australian company Getmee marks the beginning of an international partnership aimed at fostering social justice and equal opportunities for young people in the state.
At the Hall of Portraits in the Government Palace, Díaz Mena formalized this partnership alongside Balendran Thavarajah, founder and CEO of the tech firm. Through this alliance, Getmee will provide advanced technology to personalize education, strengthen soft skills, and improve English proficiency—key elements for ensuring students’ competitiveness in a globalized world.
