Scalable Impact: How AMES Australia Used AI to Transform English Coaching for Newly Arrived Migrants
In 2023, AMES Australia, one of Australia’s leading providers of settlement, education, and employment services, launched the MyAMES Chat app, powered by Getmee AI. Designed to strengthen digital literacy, professional communication, and English language skills, the app has become a vital tool in helping migrants and refugees transition into the Australian workforce and community life.
AMES Australia’s Skilled Professional Migrant Program (SPMP) supports professionals from overseas in finding employment that matches their qualifications and experience. The MyAMES Chat app was developed to extend that support beyond the classroom, allowing participants to practise English, build confidence, and develop digital skills at a time and place that suits them.
“It augments the support they get from the AMES Australia Skilled Professional Migrant Program teachers. It means they can study in their own time and at their own convenience. It will also help them acquire digital skills. The app will help the students find work commensurate with their skills and qualifications more quickly. This will produce a dividend for the broader economy, which is currently suffering from a skills shortage.”
— Melinda Collinson, CEO, AMES Australia
The initiative also recognises the economic imperative: enabling skilled migrants and refugees to enter the workforce faster benefits not only individuals, but Australia’s broader economy, particularly given current skills shortages across multiple industries.
The MyAMES Chat app was recognised at the Tech Diversity Awards for its innovative approach to digital inclusion, demonstrating the power of AI-driven tools to create equitable pathways for newly arrived communities.
