Getmee AI and Mexican partner Ominio will deliver personalised English and employability skills coaching across 18 higher education institutions in Yucatán
MÉRIDA, YUCATÁN – Leading Australian education technology company Getmee AI is expanding its AI coaching technology across Yucatán’s public higher education network. This follows the signing of an agreement for a statewide rollout to 21,000 students.
The initiative, backed by the Government of the State of Yucatán and delivered with Mexican technology implementation partner Ominio, will provide students across 18 higher education institutions with personalised AI coaching focused on English communication, interview preparation, employability and workforce readiness.
Coaching is embedded directly into enrolled programs, with students earning academic credit for completing activities and the assessment – connecting AI-powered practice to formal academic recognition for the first time across the state’s university network. By using AI to support repetitive activities such as practice, assessment and feedback, the initiative can also reduce the burden on teachers, freeing up valuable time for more impactful one-on-one support, mentoring and personalised intervention where students need it most.
The rollout represents a significant expansion for the Australian technology company in Mexico, moving from a year-long testing and tuning of the products for Yucatán with four public universities and 1,000 students in 2025 to implementation across the state’s entire higher education network.
The statewide rollout will commence in October 2026.
Key ministers are expected to attend a ceremony in November alongside education leaders, Getmee and Ominio to officially announce the innovation partnership to the state.
At the heart of the initiative is Getmee’s mobile-first AI coaching technology, designed to give students access to personalised learning and feedback directly from their mobile devices.
Getmee’s AI English Coach assesses individual learners against the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), monitoring performance across pronunciation, reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Rather than providing every student with the same learning experience, the technology assigns daily activities based on each learner’s current English level, tracks improvement and advances learners as they demonstrate the required capability.
Students can also practise professional communication, job interviews and workplace skills through AI-powered scenarios and receive immediate personalised feedback.
The decision to expand the program follows results from the 2025 pilot. Students across four public universities completed weekly activities covering technical English, pronunciation, communication, interview preparation and soft skills, with pilot feedback recording a 95% student recommendation rate.
The expansion demonstrates how Australian-developed AI can move beyond individual institutional pilots to support education and employability initiatives at much greater scale internationally.
It also demonstrates a model for Australian technology companies entering international markets through strong local partnerships. Getmee provides the AI coaching and education technology capability, while Ominio brings local technology implementation expertise, institutional relationships and knowledge of the Mexican market.
For Yucatán, the initiative provides a way to extend personalised communication and employability skills development to thousands of students while giving institutions greater visibility into participation and progress.
For Australia and Mexico, it represents a practical example of international collaboration where Australian AI capability is adapted to local needs and delivered through Mexican expertise and institutional partnerships.
Joaquín Díaz Mena, Governor of Yucatán
“The State Government reaffirms its commitment to connecting university education with the demands of the labour market, ensuring that young people are prepared to face the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities of a constantly changing world.”
Balendran Thavarajah, Founder and CEO, Getmee
“AI has the potential to give every student access to personalised support, regardless of where they study or their starting point. By bringing Getmee’s global AI capability into the Mexican context alongside Ominio, we provide universities and government with an advanced AI platform that is relevant and accessible. The pilot showed us that students want this support. This statewide rollout allows us to take what we learned and help 21,000 young people build the English, communication and employability skills they need to confidently transition from education into work.”
Iñigo Ayala, Chief Operating Officer, Ominio
“Our goal from the beginning is to translate AI innovation into real outcomes for students across Yucatán. Ominio will work on the ground with universities to drive implementation, adoption and student engagement, ensuring Getmee’s technology works within the local education environment. AI can take care of repetitive practice and provide immediate, personalised feedback at scale, giving educators more time to focus on what matters most – mentoring, one-on-one support and helping students succeed.”
